Ship30 is about the end, and I failed to reach the engagement I hoped to create.

I’ve witnessed some topics fared much better, and they were mostly on tech, nocode, startup, personal growth.

At #ship30, I’ve learned that even the most technical topics can create engagement to grab readers’ attention.

Storytelling is Part of the Solution to the Climate Crisis.

60% of people want to be entertained on social media.

While experts and scientists are eager to share their research on planetary destruction, these are pure facts. Facts alone don’t move people. Stories that answer what’s in it for me question do. So readers can relate and take action.

Action = Engagement = Action

#1. Answer what’s in it for me question for your reader.

Curiosity is a great tool to create engagement.

I learned this lesson hard as climate solutions usually don’t solve an urgent personal problem. Most interesting digital content either creates a FOMO feeling or meets readers’ instant gratification need.

If readers can see a clear and urgent benefit, they act.

#2. The best story wins the attention game.

The facts are not enough to motivate people to act.

People act with emotions, relatable experiences, and curiosity. Make your audience relate to the topic, and they’ll want to know more. Telling a story with relatable emotions and experiences will instantly create engagement.

#3. Share positive stories.

Never use negative wordings in headlines.

Climate stories are full of bad news. That is a fact, our planet is off its limits, but pessimism won’t solve anything. Definitely won’t create an engagement. But positive stories can encourage people.

Any good news? Many builders and entrepreneurs are shipping unique products to solve the climate crisis.

While specific topics come with their audience, even the most technical issues can be engaging with relatable stories and positive emotions.
