One thing to give it a shot if you have some cryptocurrency

Last November, the entire cryptocurrency market has passed the $3 trillion market cap milestone with over 300 million active investors.

Indeed, most people innately invest in crypto markets in diversifying their portfolios, focusing on financial gains and innovations. Yet cryptocurrencies can change the philanthropy landscape. According to The Giving Block, a platform that makes cryptocurrency fundraising easy for nonprofits, the average crypto donation size on their platform is around $11K which is 100x higher than the average online donations. What makes this number even more impactful is that 45% of crypto users donate at least $1,000 to charities each year, which is around 33% for non-crypto asset owners. When the young user base of crypto-asset holders and the excellent wealth transfer of this decade combined, crypto investors became the biggest philanthropy asset, owners.

Recent examples from tech influencers are encouraging too. In 2021 co-founder of Ethereum Vitalik Buterin donated 50 trillion tokens — worth $1.2 billion to India’s Crypto COVID Relief Fund. In March 2021, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey raised $2.9 million by selling an NFT version of the first tweet to an NGO.

In addition to tech influencers, many well-known NGOs, including the Red Cross and Save the Children, have started to accept cryptocurrencies as a donation. 2022 will be the year crypto philanthropy goes mainstream as:

  1. Blockchain technology provides superb donor privacy
  2. Crypto donations are a cost-effective way to collect money

Which NGOs accept cryptodonations?

Greenpeace accepts Bitcoin.

Internet Archive accepts Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, XRP, and ZCash.

Human Rights Foundation accepts Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Khan Academy accepts Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and Ethereum.

Rainforest Foundation accepts Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, and Litecoin.

Red Cross accepts Bitcoin via Bitpay (note: Bitpay may charge a conversion fee).

Tor Project accepts Bitcoin, Augur, Dash, Litecoin, Monero, Stellar Lumen, ZCash, and Ethereum.

The Water Project accepts: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum and Litecoin.

If you are an asset owner, you can easily donate with cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Ether using BitPay from their pages. It is worth giving a try to #CryptoGivingTuesday
